Under the spreading chestnut tree
I sold you and you sold me:
There lie they, and here lie we
Under the spreading chestnut tree.
So true and so sad and so tragic. Now here's a pedandic note from an old English major: I'm mystified by the absence of periods in what seems to be virtually all of these pithy-with-picture offerings on the Internet. Have you noticed this and do you have any ideas about why they're so often omitted?
Mimi, I have indeed noticed that, and it troubles me, too. I am supposing that most people having the computer skills needed to generate such pictures are substantially younger than we are, and therefore were educated in a time of lesser literacy. Just hang on for a few more years, and see how bad it gets.
Sobering, true, and brilliant all at once. I definitely will pass that one on.
