The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, and they could hardly have found a more valuable target: American officials said that 22 of the dead were Navy Seal commandos, including members of Seal Team 6. Other commandos from that team conducted the raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, that killed Bin Laden in May. The officials said that those who were killed Saturday were not involved in the Pakistan mission.As a notorious non-supporter of The Troops™, all I can say is, there's thirty folks who'll never become thug cops back home, at least.

Isn't that an interesting construct, Jim? The killing of Bin Laden seems here to be at a remove from the killers--it was the RAID that killed him. It's not an exact analogy, but in a way, it reminds me of the war museum I saw in Tokyo: The captions say the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the rape of Nanking "OCCURRED," not that the Japanese did it.
I'm moved that for whatever reason this seems to have really hit home with Americans in a way that our other casualties have not. Inspiring to hear people on all sides of the political spectrum honor this loss.
P.S. As a dog lover, I'd note the loss of an army dog and its handler. No, we can't do much for the dog's family, but it's important to remember the many layers of modern combat.
