What Goes Around, Comes Around

Have you seen the WikiLeaks video? Nothing so remarkable about it -- just another crew of "our guys" straight-up murdering another dozen or so towelheads. As Mr. Greenwald points out, it's very much business as usual in this phase of the Empire.

Well, we've all heard warnings about "blowback." When we get all nine-elevended again, we might want to consider the sort of dragons' teeth we've been sowing. There's another sort of blowback, though, that you might not have been thinking about so much. When our murderous heroes get home, lots of them find employment as ... cops.

Sweet dreams, Mr. and Mrs. America.

Addedendum: after posting this, I saw what my much-more-productive and much-more-perceptive fellow blogger akaGaGa posted. As usual, she's got it struck squarely on the head.

I don't know about productive or perceptive, but thanks for the shout out.

And Greenwald's post makes a point that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. It reminds me of the comment made by General Tommy Franks when asked about civilian deaths: "We don't do body counts."

And your point about the troops returning home is well-taken. What happens to the mind and heart of someone who has done what they've done? Either they become violent cops, as you say, or they repent and denounce what's happened.

The "Winter Soldier" book from ivaw.org, which chronicles some of the latter, is worth a read.

I'll endeavor to check it out -- thanks!

First and foremost, members of the military are hired killers. No matter what else they are, that's the bottom line. What's more, they're enslaved hired killers--if they don't believe it, they should try dropping out before their term is up. Those "Support Our Troops" signs particularly want to me me hurl. Thanks for the post, Jim, and for the mention of akaGaGa's--both are dead on.
